I meant to blog yesterday but I hadn’t reckoned on the time it would take to get a new laptop set up.
We took delivery of a nice shiny new laptop on Tuesday late afternoon for a member of the team, so I thought I would spend a few hours on Wednesday setting it up, you know firewall, anti-virus, spy-ware and ad-ware removal/prevention software and the list goes on, not to mention getting it onto our network etc. easy I thought, but I hadn’t accounted for Microsoft new Vista operating system, the result I lost a whole day to this.
So a big thank you to the guys at Microsoft, what is wrong with XP that you have to inflict this ‘crap’ on us?
It has however helped me form a new IT strategy, like many of our clients, and many of my colleagues, I will now be investigating moving over to Apple Mac machines, their operating system can’t be any worse than what the new Vista is.
Oh did I mention the drain on the laptops resources, we have already had to upgrade the ram, then there’s all the patches that it downloaded as soon as we go a secure connection to the internet, the laptops only 2 days old!
Should have gone to Dell and bought one with XP!
And a big apology to the clients who had to wait until after 6pm for a reply from me yesterday, it really wasn’t my fault
