Maternity entitlement delayed

The government had planned to extend Statutory Maternity Pay, Maternity Allowance and Statutory Adoption Pay, however, these plans have now been delayed and will not be implemented in April 2009.

These changes would have seen paid Statutory Maternity Pay rise from 39 weeks to 52 weeks and the introduction of Additional Paternity Leave and Pay.

The Additional Paternity Leave and Pay would give employed fathers the right to an additional 26 weeks off work (with pay) to care for the child in its first year, if the mother has returned to work and has not used her full entitlement to paid maternity leave.

No further guidance on a revised implementation date has been forthcoming from the Government, but as soon as it is we will let you know.

A personal observation, these entitlements are great, but I wonder has this government ever stopped to think how will the small business survive its generosity?
