Advance Notice of Major Upgrades (30th October – 1st November)

WinWeb would like to make our customers aware that due to major upgrades the WinWeb Login will not work from Saturday until Monday afternoon.

During this time our technical team will be hard at work preparing for the launch of the exciting new version of our software.

The above notice is very exciting for us here at Holden Associates, for those that don’t know, this winweb upgrade means we are finally getting version 6. I saw version 6 in the summer this year while in London and have been waiting for its roll out ever since.

Today our blog became 3. Yes that's right, we have now been blogging for 3 years, in those 3 years we have hopefully informed and guided many clients and non clients alike.

The blog has matured in this time, it started off as a more factual blog with our first posting being entitled ‘tax watch’, more recently we have moved towards a more informative approach.

What else have we be doing for many years that most other accountants are only just starting to catch up with?

In March 2005 we also started to offer WinWeb Cloud Accounting software to all our clients for £FREE. WinWeb has also matured in the years, now with Version 6 it is more powerful than ever, go take a look for yourself, and remember, become a client of Holden Associates and get it £FREE.

The Microsoft giant in November 2007 jumped into the UK bookkeeping software market. 16 November 2009 they will jump out.

So again we see a case of the larger software company trying something and failing. That’s all well and good, but what about those using this product?

Well, the news in my opinion, is not all bad, personally I liked some of the features, a lot, what I didn’t like was the power hungry way it used my office computers.

I have one question for Microsoft, why did you not make this hosted software?

Let’s be honest, if you are a client of Holden Associates then you are probably already using our hosted bookkeeping software which is powered by winweb and all this is totally irrelevant to you.

If you are not a client of Holden Associates, and you have been told to use, or even worse, buy this product by your accountant, oh dear.

Although, all is not lost, we are still offering all our clients Online Office 5 for £FREE, that’s right, no charges, no catches, and for *most small business no cost for training either, that’s right become a client of Holden Associates and we will show you how to use the software for *£FREE.

The demise of the Microsoft attempt to gain market share is a shame for those who have bought the product, as from 16 November it looks like what you have is all you will ever get! Don’t panic, for some what it does will be enough for you for years to come, but for others it maybe worth considering at your year end dropping Microsoft’s product and looking to another.

According to a recent report by 1&1 Internet Ltd a staggering 46% of the UKs small businesses still don’t have a website, in this day and age this is staggering!

530 small businesses were surveyed, 1&1 reported:

The data suggests that such companies are misinformed over the true cost and time needed to build a website themselves. Significantly, a further 47 per cent of firms still off-line believe that a website could not benefit their business. This is in direct contrast with a further survey of 152 similar businesses with websites, where 80 per cent gain revenue from their sites, and 80 per cent would be willing to build their next website themselves using a DIY-style website package.

There is no real reason why you can’t be online and when you consider online sales are increasing year on year, compare that to the high street.

There really is no reason why every business shouldn’t or can’t have a website. Sites such as 1&1 offer you the chance to build your own website at a low price.
