Excellent article. I completely agree with you…some businesses are just hobbies and started because it was fun at the time. Thus the astounding statistic you mention above, 95% small business failure rate. One way to turn this failure rate around is to contract with an outside consultant that can focus on business building strategies, best of class performance improvement systems and teambuilding. Kathleen Ranahan is one that was recommended to me.

While it is a good idea to ask friends or family members who run a business to recommend a tax adviser, avoid using someone simply because they are a family member or friend and will provide you with free, or very cheap, tax advice. You may not get the best advice, and if you have a problem with your taxes later, it may affect your personal relationship.
