Hi There Holdenassociates,
This might be off topic, however, I possibly will be slightly off theme but a specific thing I have recognized right now with a multitude of families doing it rough is that they dont have a lot of time spare to commit in doing their accounts. Alternatively they would rather be doing some work or applying that time to chase down even more work. The common experience of everyone right now is that what is necessary is a totally different method to accounting, a even more simplified way of dong the accounts with no need of all the needless runaround that is typical of conventional bookkeeping... in any case thats my observation.

Actually obtaining a small bsiness loan is more difficult than it would at first appear. Most banks have a credit committee, for loans above certain threshold amounts. I found some great tips - 9 of them, at http://www.smallbusinessfinancetips.com/small-business-loans.html Alos, don't forget that most lenders want to know about collateral, character, capital, conditions, and cash flow - also known as the 5C's of credit.

The British Enterprise Bank (BEB), business venture with the intent to only lend to small and medium-sized firms is truly a remarkable financial path of progression for small and medium-sized firms. I could possibly see my personal banking and business banking both switching to BEB in support and belief of the cause. Moving onwards and upward.

Good, common sense advice.

Starting any business you need to take soundings - your market, the way you will operate, costs - the list just goes on. A good accountant will help you to focus on all of this and save an awful lot of time and probably money too.

Excellent article. I completely agree with you...some businesses are just hobbies and started because it was fun at the time. Thus the astounding statistic you mention above, 95% small business failure rate. One way to turn this failure rate around is to contract with an outside consultant that can focus on business building strategies, best of class performance improvement systems and teambuilding. Kathleen Ranahan is one that was recommended to me.

Great article, many small businesses do not claim R & D tax credits as their accountants are unaware of them.

I couldn't agree more Jack, using a Professionally Qualified Tax Adviser is a must, that is why ALL out tax planning is carried out by Chartered Tax Advisers.

While it is a good idea to ask friends or family members who run a business to recommend a tax adviser, avoid using someone simply because they are a family member or friend and will provide you with free, or very cheap, tax advice. You may not get the best advice, and if you have a problem with your taxes later, it may affect your personal relationship.
