Jason is the principal of Holden Associates, a family-run accountancy practice. He is a UK-qualified accountant and a Fellow of the Association of International Accountants, with over 37 years of experience working within the owner-managed business sector. His career began in 1987, working with firms across Lancashire and later with one of West Yorkshire’s leading accountancy practices in Leeds. Over the years, he realised that business owners need more than just compliance services; they need expert advice, practical solutions, and a partner who understands the challenges of running a business.
In 2002, Jason founded Holden Associates with the vision of creating an accountancy firm that offers proactive support and real-world advice. By 2004, it became his full-time focus, growing from a small group of clients into a well-respected firm supporting businesses across the UK. Unlike many accountants, he understands the realities of running a business because he has built one himself. Holden Associates started as a true start-up, and in those early days, there were not enough clients to even cover his mortgage, but he took the risk, and today he is incredibly proud of what has been built.
Technology has always played a key role in how Holden Associates works. Since 2005, the firm has embraced cloud accounting, online bookkeeping, and virtual meetings through Zoom, Skype, and email, allowing support for clients nationwide. Whether a business is local or based elsewhere in the UK, Holden Associates provides expert advice, tax planning, and strategic business support without geographical limitations.
When starting Holden Associates, Jason’s aim was simple: to create the kind of accountancy firm he would choose if he were the client. That means providing a service that goes beyond compliance, helping clients grow, improve profitability, and plan for the future. Today, as Managing Director, his focus is on ensuring clients receive the very best service, whether that is preparing their accounts, advising on tax strategies, or helping them take their business to the next level. Sometimes that means bringing in other professionals, and he has built a strong network to ensure clients always have access to the expertise they need.
In October 2013, Jason was honored to receive the Association of International Accountants’ Accountant of the Year award. The association put him forward, but it was the clients who voted, making it the best testimony he could ever receive about the value of what Holden Associates does.
